Leif Heilberg’s photos have been synonymous with nudism for nearly 50 years. As a nudist photographer, his work encompassed Europe, Eastern Block countries, the South Pacific, and the United States.
Pacific Invasion Media proudly presents a small sample of his nudist photography, taken between 1978 to present day:
The lost world of Hawaii’s nudist clubs and nude beaches come to life in this beautiful photography book, featuring the work of renowned naturist photographer, Leif Heilberg.
Active in the 70s and 80s, Leif travelled to Oahu and the neighbor islands often, capturing images of Larry and Pru Beck’s Hawaii Nudist Park in Kahuku and the subsequent North Shore Naturist Park. While visiting the neighbor islands, he photographed mainland friends, visitors and their families frolicking on the sands of unofficial “nude beaches” such as Honokohau Beach and Kua Bay on the Big Island; Anahola Beach, Donkey Beach, and Maha’ulepu Beach, Mola’a Bay on Kauai.
Many of these photos have appeared in the pages of naturist magazines which were not distributed in Hawaii at the time of publication. These images have never been seen by local islanders as this generation has long forgotten about the existence of these clubs and beaches.
Edited by T. L. Young, author of American Nudist: The Lost Journal, “Naked Hawaii” is a fine coffee-table book that celebrates the beauty of the islands complemented by the nude human form. The serenity and innocence of Heilberg’s photographs gives the reader a clear understanding of why naturism appealed to so many, and continues to do so today.

Since returning to Hawaii, I have met a buttload of local talent from kids rock bands to burlesque dancers. But on his island, we are small fishes in a smaller pond. Not everyone can play the Hilton Hawaiian Village, but we have a buttload of talent on the stages of the Republik, Hawaiian Brian’s, the Venue, Mark’s Garage, Loading Zone, just to name a few.
Check out the photos on this page and feel free to search for the videos. A few of these artists have appeared on local talk shows, but online media can get them a bigger audience, and you can help!
