How to deal with an Anti-Nudist

Pastor Fred or Uncle Freddy was based on a real dipshit named James Hartline from San Diego.

He actually claimed that children “do not have the wherewithal to comprehend nudity.” Click on the highlighted sentence to see a

Casting for a Pageant Scene

Casting the right actress to pull off the role of a potential pageant girl is crucial in any independent film. It helps to have friends who have worked with prominent directors such as James Wan (“Saw.”)

But sometimes you have to put her side by side with a girl who just isn’t right for the part. Case in point. Arielle Brachfeld sets the tone for the pageant perfectly.  Young, snarky, a bit clueless, a millenial stripper-type who thinks she’s just signed up for an adults only event.  Through Arielle has never personally been to such an event, she understood the scene.

The other actress on the other hand has been an active nudist and nude model. And nothing against her. She just isn’t a pageant girl, and as a result, her joke doesn’t really hit the mark.

Such is the problem of independent filmmaking as any hot model could have killed with that line. But on a low budget, hot model types are often unaffordable. Lina Shay fits the bill perfectly as the neurotic stage manager Kayli, and in a related clip, Paula Labaredas tells a questionable story about her friend, “Paris.”

Working on an independent film short is never easy, but there’s a distinct advantage to filming in Hawaii. Even on a low budget, you can count on the cooperation of the cast and crew, the Aloha Spirit.

This film would not have been possible without the kokua of all those involved, so I thank you all: Yan, Sinai, Teri, Chance, Frank, R.J., Keoni, Bob, Trevor, Tiffany, Randall, Garett, Dr. Dan, Chris, Lymari, Brittney and Christine.

Jackie Claxton is a local superhero. We need more of them. This is a franchise that grew out of Hawaii and has the best potential to thrive in the transmedia format. But we cannot stop with a festival of short films. We need to get the attention of the mainland, and this can only be done with more content from other filmmakers based in Los Angeles, New York, Louisiana, Georgia and more.

With the graphic novel becoming the staple of Hollywood blockbusters, this literary/art form has shown the world how versatile it can be, and the nature of storytelling in this medium has grown and evolved. It’s time to bring that style of storytelling to “Jackie Claxton” and hopefully we will see the making of a big budget feature film.

My film, “Jackie Claxton: Greener Pastures” posits the question: What if Jackie, the Soul Savior were to give up her powers in order to live a normal life?  What would be at stake for her? What’s the price she would have to pay?

Claxtonfest will be held at Ward Stadium Theaters on Thursday, Sept. 24. Tickets are available at the door. Do not cal the Box Office as there are no pre-sales.

Topfree in Hawaii, 2015

A nice outing today, as a small group of men and women congregated at Kaimana Beach in Waikiki.

Apparently there was a mom who was said to be very irate and complained to a police officer, who knew the law, and told her there’s nothing he can do but issue a warning. Being topless on a beach in Hawaii is perfectly legal.

He did not force us to put our clothes on.Topfree-August-2015

Hawaii Actors/Hawaii Visual Media Mixer & Meetup

Actor Joji Yoshida (“Battleship” & “Dallas Buyers Club”) and Actor/Writer Tony Young will be hosting a joint mixer at a restaurant in Kailua, Saturday, Aug. 15 at 4:00 p.m.

Joji will be speaking about his film, “The CY Project.”

Tony Young co-wrote the sequel to the cult classic, “Samurai Cop.” He will be discussing the Jackie Claxton Film Festival coming in September and independent filmmaking in Hawaii.

This will be an amazing opportunity to mingle with working actors who are a part of the Hawaii Actors Network, as an alternative to the other H.A.N. mixer at Dave and Buster’s the same night.

–I mean, seriously, who announces a comedy show requiring tickets as a meet and greet.

This event will be held at

Topfree equality, October 2014

“Excuse me, are you all from this country?”

This is what some busybody young woman said to us when we were simply enjoying topfree swim and picnic. Keep in mind this is after the cops talked to us. They were aware of Tess Meier’s annual campaign in Waikiki, but we weren’t affiliated. We were a group of friends simply having a picnic, not some group trying to make a statement, despite the FB page. This is the way topfree should be. Just natural and normal. In other words, a day at the beach.

We didn’t bother anyone and had some good feedback as well. In fact, two women (both originally from the mainland) joined our group on FB, though they didn’t take their tops off.

However, the Puritans of Hawaii don’t see it that way. This woman was clearly offended and accused the of “getting their jollies” by walking around half naked in front of all these children.

But I for one am sick and tired of making the same clothes-freedom/naturist arguments that I have made for over twenty years. My colleague told me it’s important to keep making the statements, but frankly I just hope one day these morons will just leave us the hell alone.
